448 Out-of-School Children Rejoin Education in Thane.
Education drive helps bring migrant and tribal children back to school.
In tribal and rural areas of Thane, many children drop out of school due to frequent migration of farm laborers and daily wage workers. This results in a high number of out-of-school children. To address this, the district education department launched a special campaign from July 1 to 15. As part of the drive, 448 children have been successfully brought back into the education system. Many families in rural Thane migrate regularly, which affects their children’s education. Fearing low school attendance, parents avoid enrolling their kids. Officials conducted searches in Navi Mumbai, railway stations, construction sites, slums, and other locations to identify such children. The highest number—152—were found in Navi Mumbai. Based on state and central guidelines, such drives are carried out every year to ensure no child remains out of school.
