Suspicious death of 15 Waterfowls in Thane

Bird flu has been found to be the cause of death of many birds in many states of the country. As a result, while alerts have been issued in some states, 15 Waterfowls have died in Thane’s Waghbil area. The exact cause of death of these birds will come to light only after the autopsy reports. The municipal administration has appealed to the citizens not to believe the rumours.

The deadly disease, bird flu, has spread to many parts of the country. The disease can also infect humans. This has added to the fears of the frightened Thanekars. At Vijay Vatika housing complex in Waghbil, 15 Waterfowls were found to have died simultaneously on Wednesday morning. The news spread like wildfire, creating panic among the locals. The veterinary department and bird watchers rushed to the spot and started investigation. The bodies of these Waterfowls have been sent to Mumbai Animal Husbandry Hospital for further investigation. Only after this, it will be clear what caused the death of these birds.

Waterfowls perch on the tops of trees. These deaths could not have happened easily. Bird flu is suspected to be on the rise as so many Waterfowls are dying at the same time, said ornithologist Rohit Joshi. Also, as a precautionary measure, the carcasses of these birds were sent to the laboratory, said Vijay Dhumal, Deputy Commissioner, Animal Husbandry.
