After an emphatic win over the defending champions Mumbai Indians, UP Warriorz will be riding high on confidence as they will take on Gujarat Giants in match number 8 of the WPL 2024 on March 1 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. UP Warriorz registered their first win this season in three outings, whereas Gujarat Giants has yet to open their account in the points table.

Players to watch out

Kiran Navgire: This right-handed batter opened the batting for UP Warriorz in the previous match against Mumbai Indians and provided a stellar start, muscling 57 runs from just 31 balls, including six fours and four sixes. The regular opener, Vrinda Dinesh, could not start the proceedings as she injured herself while fielding, which is why Navgire got the opportunity to open the batting. She indeed grabbed this opportunity with both hands.

Grace Harris: The Australian all-rounder made valuable contributions with bat and ball for the UP Warriorz in their previous match against Gujarat Giants. The off-spinner opened the bowling with Anjali Sarvani and scalped 1/20 in four overs and later, with the bat, played an unbeaten inning of 38 from just 17 balls, including half a dozen fours and a six.  

Beth Mooney: The Gujarat Giants’ captain has not scored big in the first two matches of this WPL 2024. This left-handed opening batter from Australia will have to take the onus of the team’s batting and lead from the front as the rest of her teammates cannot find runs.

Dayalan Hemalatha: This right-handed middle-order batter of Gujarat Giants was the top run scorer for her team against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the last game. She scored an undefeated 31 from 25 balls, including two fours and a six. Her role will be again crucial towards the back end of the innings.

 

Pitch

M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru has been a good chasing venue in the WPL 2024. The captains winning the toss are eager to bowl first. Batting has looked easy in the second half of the match. There has been evidence of dew in the latter half of the game, which makes it difficult for the bowlers to grip the ball. Expect an exciting contest between bat and ball.
