Women’s U23 One Day Trophy: Saurashtra beat Sikkim by 7 wickets

Umeshwari Jethva’s half century and three wicket hauls from Aayushi Patel and Teesha Gor helped Saurashtra beat Sikkim by seven wickets in the Women’s U23 One Day Trophy on Friday.

Batting first at Dadoji Konddev Stadium in Thane, Sikkim were bowled out for 154 in 47.2 overs. Of the total score, 93 runs were scored by Samayita Roy Prodhan. However, her valiant effort went in vain as she did not receive much support from the rest of the batters. Sikkim were restricted from a disciplined bowling effort from Saurashtra bowlers, especially Patel (3/33), Gor (3/28), and captain Dharani Thappetla (2/25).

Chasing a modest 155 for a win, Saurashtra started off on a positive note, thanks to a 66-run opening partnership between Jethva, who top scored with a 58 and Shifa Karimbhai (38). Later, Hirva Vadher (28) and Dharani (20*) contributed useful runs to take their team home.

Before the start of the match, Saurashtra and Sikkim lined up to maintain a two-minute silence in memory of Tukaram Surve, a Thanekar, who played at the Ranji Trophy. Surve passed away on January 24.

The next match at Dadoji Konddeo Stadium will be played on Sunday between Mizoram Women’s U23 and Odisha Women’s U23.
