When Waghbil Roared at Limca
Abhijit Mohan Sahasrabudhe, a media sales professional and a poet, is a former resident of Vasant Leela Phase 3 CHS Ltd. He just marked 10 years of a noteworthy record of collecting old Indian Newspapers. He made a National record in the Indian Book of Records and Limca Book of Records in 2010 and 2011.
He began his journey in 1997 when he discovered an old copy of the Economic Times in a bank dated back to Friday, January 14, 1972. He sought the permission of the bank and decided to own the copy. Later that day, he decided to take it up as a hobby to collect old Indian newspapers. Succeedingly, he found a copy of the ‘Anand Bazaar Patrika’ and the ‘The Telegraph.’
In order to own more newspapers, he started visiting local newspaper vendors, railway stations, and bus depots. Presently, he holds more than 500 dailies in 22 different Indian languages. He also participated in various exhibitions like the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival- in February 2012 and Techfest (IIT Bombay) in January 2014, where he showcased his astounding collection of old Indian newspapers.
Apart from this, Abhijit is also a poet and a lyricist. His motto is to exhibit the newspapers for the students, the common people, and the society to see so that they can experience the extraordinaire of his collection.
