Vrushali Bhagat’s 82 in vain; Mumbai lose to Hyderabad in Senior Women’s One Day Trophy
After a dream start to Senior Women’s One Day Trophy, Mumbai suffered their first loss in four matches. Mumbai went down to Hyderabad by 14 runs chasing 244 on Tuesday in Ahmedabad.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Hyderabad piled up a challenging score of 243/6 in 50 overs. Wicket-keeper-batter Mamatha Madiwala starred with the bat scoring an unbeaten 86 off 78 balls. Madiwala hammered nine fours in her match winning knock and kept the Mumbai bowlers and fielders on their toes. In this match, Mumbai failed to get those early breakthroughs as Sayali Satghare (1/45) and Manali Dakshini (0/45) were negotiated well by Hyderabad. However, the spin twins in Prakashika Naik and Jagravi Pawar managed to snap two wickets apiece to stem the run flow.
In reply, Mumbai fought tooth and nail to chase down the total. In the end, they were bundled out for 229 in 48.2 overs. Batting at number three, Vrushali Bhagat (81), the stylish right-hander took the attack to the opposition. Bhagat found a couple of able allies in Riya Chaudhari (25), with whom she shared a 71-run stand and wicket-keeper-batter Khushi Bhatia (52 not out), but that wasn’t enough as Hyderabad were up to task. Soppadhandi Yashasri and M Sakshi Rao were the wreckers-in-chief as they broke the back of Mumbai’s batting with four wickets apiece.
Mumbai will play their next match against Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday at Narendra Modi Stadium Ground ‘A’ in Ahmedabad.
