The supremacy of Agri cuisine

If you are a fish lover then Agri Katta is the place for you. It is an authentic Agri Food restaurant which is located in Kasarvadavli, Thane(W). The food that they serve is a sumptuous spread of never-seen-before flavours and traditional spices. A place so close to the hearts of Thanekars, it takes us back to our childhood. The restaurant is owned by Mr. Chandrakant Bhoir with his wife, Mrs. Hemlata Bhoir and son Vaibhav Bhoir. The restaurant has won awards like “Best Seafood Restaurant in Thane” by Mi Marathi Channel consecutively from the years 2013 to 2018 and “Restauranter of the year” by Kesari in the year 2015.

Agri Katta’s journey started in 2006 when Mr. Chandrakant Bhoir had an unfortunate accident. His entire body was injured and he could not walk for six months. But one day he came up with the idea of Agri Katta. People used to get the taste of Koli-Agri cuisine only during weddings so, with his wife’s delicious recipes, he created an Agri food empire for people to savour Agri food on a daily basis. Their specials are spicy Prawns Tawa Fry, Paya Rassa made with authentic spices, Vazadi Masala, Prawns Biryani, etc.

There were many ups and downs in the beginning for the family. Mr. Vaibhav Bhoir was in eighth grade when he used to work part time in the restaurant after school hours and his mother worked relentlessly in the kitchen. In 2012, Kasarvadavli’s highway road was widened and their shop was demolished during this process. The Bhoir family had to start from scratch by buying a temporary shop which was located on the opposite side of Hypercity mall, Kasarvadavli. The shop came back to its original location in the year 2018. But then Covid-19 hit in the year 2020. It was difficult to manage the restaurant but Mr. Vaibhav Bhoir (28) single-handedly managed the restaurant with two workers in his hands. He chose to focus majorly on home delivery and take away considering the severity of the pandemic. They also sent their special Paya soup to Covid patients in multiple quarantine centres.

“The business took off when one of our customers took our food to MLA Mr. Pratap Sarnaik to taste in the Bombay Mantralaya and subsequently, we got the opportunity to start a dabba service to the Bombay Mantralaya”, said Mr. Vaibhav Bhoir. Vaibhav also plans to open another outlet of Agri Katta by the end of next year. After years of hard work and sheer hustle, Agri Katta has made its place with its wholesome food and the restaurant recently celebrated 16 years of excellence.
