Thanekars splurge on McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes, and other luxury cars in 2023

The year 2023 saw a significant increase in sales of high-value vehicles in Thane. According to data from the Thane sub-regional transport department, vehicles worth crores of rupees were registered between January 1 and December 31 in Thane, Bhiwandi and Mira Bhayandar cities. In this one year, 85 cars worth more than ₹1 crore have been registered. McLaren, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maseratis, Porsche and Jaguars are some of the luxury cars that have made the cut. Also, 208 cars priced between ₹50 lakh and ₹99 lakh have been registered. The most expensive vehicle, the McLaren, was priced at approximately ₹8.9 crore, followed by the Ferrari at ₹7.4 crore.

Buyers of these expensive vehicles include businessmen and individuals associated with various political parties. The attraction of luxury vehicles has increased recently due to the large scale construction in Thane and nearby areas following the arrival of large companies. Some individuals have bought vehicles for personal use, while others have also bought them for business purpose.

Thane is home to notable figures in business, politics and the film industry. Around 15,000-20,000 cars are registered annually in the city and rural areas of the district, including sub-regional divisions like Thane, Bhiwandi, Mira Bhayandar.
