Thane gets its First Fully active and automated joint replacement robot

The CUVIS Joints Robot has been available in India since 2021 thanks to Meril Life Sciences, a global MNC with a presence in cariology in the form of valves, stents etc., apart from ortho implants and joints.

The robot is designed and manufactured by Curexo (South Korea), a world leader in robotic medical technology. CUVIS is a compound word derived from Cure and the Latin word – Vis. It’s a user-friendly surgical robot equipped with the four values of Innovation, Flexibility, Ease of use and Simplicity.

We at Kaushalya Hospital are proud to be the first to bring this robotic technology to Thane to benefit patients with arthritis of knee joints.

Once you have given the plan, then the robot, like a 3D printer, aligns itself and, with the help of a high-precision milling device, executes the lean cuts with submillimeter precision in all three planes. Then what only remains is to cement the implants.

And that is the reason that this is a game changer…

Success doesn’t necessarily come from breakthrough innovation but from flawless execution, and this ROBOT delivers flawless execution. In the first few cases, we saw that the technology offered the perfect execution, and patients were pleased with the results. We have also noticed keen interest in the patients and people, in general, to know about this technology and how it will help improve the outcomes of surgery in joint replacements.

Highlights of the technology

Artificial Intelligence – With auto segmentation patented technology, a 3D CT scan is converted to a virtual model of the limb from hip to ankle. A day or two before surgery, the surgeon plans the TKR on the console laptop. Before entering the OT, the size of components, deformity of bones, if any, in any axis, cysts etc., are known to the surgeon.

Virtual Surgery – In a conventional TKR, we use instruments, cut the bone accordingly, and adjust soft tissues to balance. In Robotics, we do virtual surgery. The software gives the results of the bone cuts before they are taken, and fine adjustments can be made to the plan so that there is minimum soft tissue handling. The knee can mimic native kinematics, resulting in more satisfaction and longevity. The ultimate endpoint of Joint Replacements, in general

Active Robotics – It is the winning point of the CUVIS Joint ROBOT.
