Thane district aims to achieve 100% vaccination against COVID-19 soon
Thane district officials have claimed that vaccinating as many as possible at the earliest could help control the spread of the new variant Omicron. Around 1.5 lakh people in the rural parts of the district have not taken the second dose of the vaccine.
Moreover, Thane district has registered only 83.44% with the first dose vaccination while 56.52% is fully vaccinated. According to the Maharashtra state vaccination figures, Thane district has the highest number of people who have not taken the first vaccination dose.
On December 16, Thane District Collector, Rajesh Narvekar, held a meeting with the district-level task force for Covid prevention. During the meeting, it was discussed that the primary health centers at the Taluka level would set up call centers that would increase the immunization level in the district. These primary health centers will provide vaccination in the evening slot for the convenience of those working during the day. Moreover, children will create awareness across villages regarding the importance of vaccination. There are plans to set up a special vaccination drive for pregnant women once a week. Every head of the department of all government offices within the district will have to ensure that all the staff is vaccinated. As schools have reopened in the rural parts of the district, teachers will be required to create awareness about immunization and guide students to ensure their families are vaccinated. Efforts need to be taken at the taluka level to ensure increased participation in vaccination. The non-vaccinators will be subject to restrictions. Hence, the officials have suggested everyone gets vaccinated at the earliest.
