Matkari said, “Fish Curry Rice was started in Pune in 2009 by Sudhir Bhat. After serving the people for more than 10 years, Sudhir Bhat’s son, Sandesh, thought of spreading the wings. Thane was shortlisted as the next destination for Fish Curry Rice and that is when I came into the picture. I believe that Thane is quite cosmopolitan and people here are avid lovers of seafood. It has been just four months that I started my operations here but the response from the people has been tremendous. Celebrities like Bhau Kadam, Kushal Badrike, Viju Mane, Vinay Adekar, Atul Parchure, Mahesh Kothare, Mohan Joshi, Rashmi Uday Singh, just to name a few have also visited Fish Curry Rice and they simply loved the food here.” Food critic Kunal Vijaykar has also showered praise on Fish Curry Rice and has been a frequent visitor of Thane and Pune branches.

Unlike the typical seafood restaurants, Fish Curry Rice, situated near Manpada, offers an exquisite variety of fish dishes that have a classic blend of Maharashtrian touch as well as the Goan feel. The fish is fresh and the preparations are inspired by Saraswat style, which are not too oily and spicy. They are suitable to everybody’s palate. Matkari added, “We source fresh fish everyday because we know that nothing can beat the taste of a fresh fish. Apart from the usual fish varieties like, Pomfret, Surmai, Rawas, Mori, Prawns, Bangada, Tisarya, and ofcourse crabs, we also serve other unique fish varieties such as Savandali, Muddusha, Verlya, Kalav, Mandeli, Ghol, Dadha, which are seldom seen elsewhere. Our signature dishes include but are not restricted to Bombil Thecha, Prawns Aluwadi, Pomfret Pedavan, Bharlela Bangada. Also our specialty is our welcome drink which is Tival.” Though Fish Curry Rice, as the name would suggest is a fish-specialty place, they do serve vegetarian cuisine as well as Chicken and Mutton dishes.
