Say “Goodbye” to slipped disc at Dr Sahil’s Advanced Physiotherapy Clinic

Dr Sahil Tahsildar, founder of Dr Sahil’s Advanced Physiotherapy Clinic, holds a Master’s degree in Physiotherapy. Before starting his independent practice, Dr Sahil worked with Saifee’s Hospital in the Advanced Physiotherapy and Sports Rehabilitation department. He has also had the experience of working as the team Physiotherapist for the Indian men’s rugby team and IIT Bombay. On the eve of World Physiotherapy Day, celebrated on September 8, Dr Sahil sheds light on slipped disc, sciatica, back pain, and more.

What is a slipped disc? How is it related to sciatica and back pain?
A slipped disc is when a disc in the spine protrudes or ruptures. This can lead to nerve compression, resulting in conditions like sciatica, causing radiating leg pain or localised back pain.

What are the primary causes of slipped disc, sciatica, and back pain? Are certain activities or postures particularly risky?
Numerous factors, including poor posture, sedentary lifestyles, and trauma, can lead to slipped disc, sciatica, and back pain. Activities like improper heavy lifting and extended sitting without correct back support increase risks significantly.

Since its inception in 2012, how has Dr Sahil’s Advanced Physiotherapy Clinic evolved?
Since 2012, our focus has been on personalised and innovative treatments. We have incorporated unique techniques like IASTM, Spinal Decompression therapy, and PEMF therapy, offering patients a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to their needs.

How does physiotherapy assist patients with advanced techniques like IASTM and PEMF therapy at hand?
These cutting-edge techniques complement traditional physiotherapy. For instance, IASTM helps in breaking down scar tissue, Spinal Decompression offers relief to compressed discs, and PEMF therapy aids in cellular regeneration and pain reduction. Together, they provide a holistic approach to patient care.

Can you share a memorable success story from your clinic?
A 35-year-old runner came to us with debilitating sciatica. Using a combination of Spinal Decompression and regular physiotherapy, she was back to running marathons within months, a testament to our comprehensive care.

What preventive advice would you offer for a healthy spine?
Regular exercise, proper posture, hydration, and periodic breaks from prolonged sitting are crucial. I would also advocate for routine check-ups to detect and address issues early.

On World Physiotherapy Day, what message would you like to convey?
Don’t endure pain silently. Early intervention, especially with specialised techniques available at our clinic, can guide you towards recovery and a healthier life.
