Residents complain of 400-500 trees cut in Thane’s Ghodbunder area
There are complaints that 400 to 500 trees have been cut down in the Kavesar area of Waghbil in Ghodbunder, and it is alleged that a developer did this tree cutting. Heritage trees are suspected to be included in the list of cut trees. Local MLA Pratap Sarnaik has inspected this area and demanded action.
On the one hand, while the emphasis is on increasing the green area in Thane city, there are complaints that 400 to 500 trees have been cut down without permission on the premises of Nerolac Company in Kavesar. Due to this, the forest cover in this area has been destroyed.
Alongside Sarnaik, Deputy Commissioner of Tree Authority Division Mithali Sancheti, Park Inspector Kedar Patil, former member of Tree Authority Vikrant Tawde, Sandeep Dongre, Senior Police Inspector of Kasarwadvali Police Station Sunil Patil inspected the deforested area. During the inspection, Sarnaik said this area was used for illegal construction.
According to the villagers of Waghbil, there were also many Banyan and Peepal trees in that place. Also, there were many rare tree species. Based on Google Maps, evidence of 400 to 500 trees at this place has been submitted to the police by Vikrant Tawde, a former tree authority member. Also, the tree authority department submitted a statement to the police station and demanded action against the concerned.
