Poor road conditions take a toll on Waghbil residents
The infrastructure of Ghodbunder road keeps updating from time-to-time but the condition of roads still remains the same. The roads in Waghbil are uneven and are filled with gigantic potholes which eventually lead to accidents especially, the road that connects Hiranandani Estate to Waghbil and the road which connects Bhoomi Acres to Waghbil. “The contractor who was assigned to complete the road work near Palacia, Bhoomi Acres was not paid hence, he left the construction work half done” says Mr. Ravi Gharat, President of Ramkrushna Foundation. It’s been two long years but the road has still not been made and the corporation is trying to find another contractor who will take up this responsibility again. The road in front of SVPT’s Saraswati Vidyalaya school, Kavesar, Thane west is dreadful. Due to this situation, minor accidents occur and there is a lot of school bus traffic.
The residents of the Kavesar area struggle with the health of the roads on a daily basis. “I have changed my car tyres four to five times in the last two months because of the state of the roads” says Mr. Ankush Maiti, 24, a resident of Vijay Enclave, Waghbil, Thane west. The maintenance cost of vehicles has skyrocketed and with roads like these, it’s hard for the automobiles to survive for a long time. A few residents have complained about the roads affecting their health as well. “I get a severe backache whenever I travel from these roads. There are potholes everywhere” says Mrs. Sulbha Kumbhare, 66, a resident of Waghbil, Thane west. People opt to take the inside route instead of the highway to avoid the truck traffic which goes towards Gujarat and majorly to save time. But, end up regretting their decision after experiencing multiple potholes and jerky roads. The road behind Vijay Garden was constructed in a matter of a few days. So hopefully, the corporation will take this matter into consideration and start working towards it. This effort will be highly appreciated by the Waghbil residents as it will make their lives easier.
