NGO Rnisarg celebrates International Menstruation Day on May 28
On the eve of International Menstruation Day that is celebrated on May 28, Rnisarg Foundation, organized MeSakhi Contest. Since the last two years, Rnisarg has been celebrating this day by organizing MeSakhi Contest. This contest aims at creating awareness on the subject of menstrual health, menstruation hygiene and sustainable menstrual products, through various media. The primary goal of Rnisarg is to empower women towards a greener, safer and healthier menstrual cycle.
Rnisarg through its initiative of MeSakhi has educated over 10,000 women about menstruation hygiene and successfully convinced more than 2000 women to use sustainable menstrual products like menstrual cups. Menstrual hygiene has been a cause of concern especially in slum and tribal areas. If proper care is not taken during the menstrual cycle, then a female can contract diseases which may or may not have a cure. It is therefore of paramount importance to maintain menstrual hygiene in order to stay away from any kind of infections.
This year, MeSakhi Contest was organized at the IMA Hall in Sahayog Mandir, Thane, in collaboration with IMA, TOGS, AMOGS and FOGSI. The event was supported by the Thane Municipal Corporation. During the programme, more than 2000 women from slums were donated menstrual cups to ensure their menstrual hygiene. The women who have made the shift to sustainable menstrual products and are the beneficiaries of MeSakhi were appreciated and acknowledged. Apart from this, to make the event lively, there was a ramp walk competition judged by celebrity judges.
