Murbad MLA Kisan Kathore pushes for a separate Kalyan district

At the Thane district planning committee (DPC) meeting that took place on January 8, Murbad MLA Kisan Kathore insisted on having a separate Kalyan district. At present, Kalyan city is a part of Thane district.

This demand from Kathore has come almost after a decade since Palghar was given a separate identity from Thane district. Palghar was announced as an independent district (and not a part of Thane district) in August 2014. This was possible only after years of follow-up with the state government from those concerned stating the importance of dedicated funds allocated to the district would help in the upliftment of rural and tribal belt.

The demand for a separate Kalyan district has also been made on the similar lines by Kathore.
