Mumbai’s Sim “run” machine decimates Uttarakhand
Mumbai started the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy with a bang as they demolished Uttarakhand by 84 runs on Wednesday at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Mumbai piled up a respectable 233/9 in 50 overs. Despite losing their captain Humairaa Kaazi (15) early, the other Mumbai batters shouldered the responsibility with elan. Opening batter Riya Chaudhari (24) and Vrushali Bhagat (32) played a useful hand before Simran Shaikh (70) and Sayali Satghare (46) dominated Uttarakhand with their power-packed stroke play to send the bowlers on a leather hunt. Though Uttarakhand boasted of former India bowlers, Mansi Joshi (0/33) and Ekta Bisht (2/47), they could not keep the islanders at bay.
Chasing 234, Uttarakhand were skittled out for 149 in 45 overs. The pace duo of Satghare (3/18) and Manali Dakshini (3/23) wreaked havoc with the ball as they broke the back of Uttarakhand’s batting. Uttarakhand lost half their side inside 10 overs with just 26 runs on board. However, their tail wagged for another 35 overs to add 123 runs. Prema Rawat, who had picked two wickets early in the day, top scored with the bat mustering 45 runs off 54 balls.
Mumbai will play their next match against Kerala on Friday at the same venue.
