Mumbai bow out in the semi-final of Senior Women’s One Day Trophy

In an unexpected turn of events, Mumbai, having advanced to the semi-final of the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy in the most dramatic of styles, went down against Madhya Pradesh by seven wickets without arguably putting up a solid fight on Friday in Rajkot.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Mumbai’s innings was folded cheaply for 161 in 35 overs. The opening pair of Vrushali Bhagat (28) and Riya Chaudhari (15) provided a steady piling up 44 runs in 8.2 overs. However, the islanders lost the duo in a matter of three runs and 11 balls, along with their captain Humairaa Kaaza (0). After that, the domestic T20 champions kept losing intervals at regular intervals. Ira Jadhav (35), Jagravi Pawar (22), and Khushi Bhatia (35 not out) got starts but failed to capitalise. Madhya Pradesh’s ShuchiUpadhyay wreaked havoc with the ball as she snapped five of the top six wickets, breaking the back of Mumbai’s batting.

Defending a modest target of 162, Mumbai took the game to the 48th over. They made Madhya Pradesh work hard for each and every run. The basic difference between the two teams was that Madhya Pradesh had wickets in hand. Bhagat, Pawar, and Prakashika Naik chipped in with one scalp apiece, but that was never going to be enough. M Adhya Pradesh lost their three wickets for 63 runs. However, after that, Ananya Dubey (75 not out) and Aayushi Shukhla (44 not out) put their heads down and steered their team home.

While it is curtains for Mumbai’s campaign at the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy, Madhya Pradesh will play the final against Bengal on Sunday in Rajkot.

Brief Scores: Mumbai 161 all out in 35 overs (K Bhatia 35 not out; S Upadhyay 5/48) lost to Madhya Pradesh 165/3 in 47.2 overs (A Dubey 75 not out; J Pawar 1/19) by 7 wickets
