Matunga Gymkhana lose by 12 runs despite Vaibhavi Raja’s 117 in 2nd MCA Women’s Cricket League

Vaibhavi Raja’s scintillating century went in vain as Matunga Gymkhana lost to MIG Cricket Club by 12 runs in the first-round match of the 2nd MCA Women’s Cricket League played on Wednesday at the Matunga Gymkhana.

Chasing 230 for a win in 40 overs, Matunga Gymkhana was on the right track to achieve the target. Leading from the front was their captain, Vaibhavi, who opened the batting and muscled a power-packed 117 off 114 balls. This right-handed batter peppered the boundary with 17 hits to the fence. Despite her splendid effort, which ended with a runout, Matunga Gymkhana found themselves on the losing side, as they were restricted to 217/7 in 40 overs.

Vaibhavi, a resident of Ghatkopar, trains in Dombivli at Cricket Explained Academy under the guidance of Hrishikesh Puranik.

Matunga Gymkhana will be in action again on their home ground on Friday as they take on National Cricket Club in round 2 of the 2nd MCA Women’s Cricket League.
