Krunal Pandya led Baroda beat Punjab by 3 runs at Dadoji Konddeo Stadium

Thane’s Dadoji Konddeo Stadium is one of the nine venues for the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2023. It is only the second time that Thane has been chosen as one of the venues for this exciting domestic one-day cricket tournament that features 36 state teams from the Ranji Trophy plates organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). In 2021, Vijay Hazare Trophy was played for the first time in Thane.

This year, seven matches will be played at Dadoji Konddeo Stadium. The first of these matches was played between Baroda and Punjab on November 23. It was a nail-biting thriller as Krunal Pandya led Baroda defended a modest score of 214 and won the match by just three runs.

Winning the toss and electing to bowl first, Punjab bowlers put up a good show as they reduced Baroda to 214/9 in 50 overs. The 33-year-old right arm speedster Baltej Singh was the most successful bowler for Punjab as he claimed 27/4 in 10 overs, including one maiden. For Baroda, Shivalik Sharma was the top run getter with 51 off 69 balls.

In reply, Punjab almost chased the total, however fell short of just three runs as they were bowled out for 211 in 49 overs. Nehal Wadhera (49) and Siddharth Kaul (47) fought hard but failed to see their team home. Baroda’s fast bowlers Atit Sheth and Babashafi Pathan wreaked havoc as they shared six wickets between them.

The next match at Dadoji Konddeo Stadium will be played on November 25 between Goa and Tamil Nadu. Dinesh Karthik, Vijay Shankar, Varun Chakravarthy, T Natarajan, Rahul Tripathi, Suyash Prabhudesai, and Arjun Tendulkar will be some of the prominent players that will feature in that fixture.
