Kolshet Road Declared ‘No Hawker Zone’ After Air Force Complaint.
Following a complaint from Air Force authorities, the Thane Municipal Corporation has declared the stretch from D-Mart to Lohia Nagar in Kolshet as a ‘No Hawker Zone’. This move comes amid rising concerns over congestion and security near the Indian Air Force station located in the area. The road is a vital internal connector, often jammed due to hawkers, illegal stalls, and parked vehicles. Despite repeated warnings, encroachments continued, disrupting traffic and causing daily inconvenience to commuters. The Air Force raised an alarm after finding hawkers near both sides of the approach road to the sensitive defence area. Local residents have complained of unhygienic food stalls, vendors using gas cylinders, and nighttime loading activities that worsen traffic. The civic body, with police assistance, will now remove all hawkers from the designated zone. Officials say the move is essential for both national security and public convenience, especially as the area sees regular Air Force movement and rising population density.
