Know Your Ingredient: Jowar

Jowar is an ancient grain and is among the top cereals in the world. Jowar flour has amazing health benefits as it is rich in fibre, proteins, iron and magnesium and is considered a good option for controlling diabetes, cholesterol and high blood pressure. It also contains a good amount of B vitamins, zinc and phosphorous making it an ideal solution for a healthy diet.

Prep time: 30-40 minutes

Will make: 20 small- medium sized ladoos

 

Ingredients:

1 cup jowar flour

¼ cup suji/rava

¼ cup whole wheat flour

¼ cup +1 tbsp almond flour or blanched almond powder

1 tbsp gond (edible gum) powder

½ cup +2 tbsp fine jaggery powder

½ cup pure ghee

½ tsp elaichi (green cardamom) powder

Procedure:

  1. Keep all the ingredients ready.
  2. Heat ghee in a wok. Roast jowar flour, suji, whole wheat flour, and gond powder in it till you get a nutty aroma. Stir continuously.
  3. Add almond flour and stir for 2 minutes.
  4. Turn off the heat and allow the mixture to cool a bit.
  5. Mix jaggery powder and elaichi powder to the above mixture.
  6. Apply ghee on your palms, take some ladoo mixture and roll it into lemon sized balls.
  7. Store in airtight containers.
