IND-W register their first Test win against ENG-W on home soil
India Women beat England Women by 347 runs on Saturday to register a historic win in the Test match that was played at Dr D Y Patil Sports Academy. It was also India’s first win on home soil against England in women’s Tests and third overall of the 12 Tests that they have played against each other to date. England have just won the one Test.
In the first innings India posted a mammoth 428 riding on half centuries from Deepti Sharma and Yastika Bhatia along with Test debutants Shubha Satheesh and Jemimah Rodrigues. Like batters, the bowlers also performed brilliantly well as they bowled out England for a paltry 136. Sharma was the star performer with the ball with a five wicket haul and was ably supported by Sneh Rana who claimed two scalps.
Not enforcing a follow on India batted again adding another 186 to their existing lead of 292 to set a humongous target of 479. On the pitch that was offering a pot of turn, the spinners again did the job for India as they bowled out England for 131 in the first session of Day 3. Sharma picked up four wickets and speedster Pooja Vastrakar accounted for three.
India’s all rounder Deepti Sharma won the player of the match award for her excellent performance with bat and ball. The India-England series has concluded with England winning the T20I series 2-1 and India winning the one off Test.
