Since 2016, India Women have never won a T20I series against Australia Women. Having taken a 1-0 in the ongoing three-match T20I series, India Women have the golden opportunity to seal the series by winning the second T20I that will be played on Sunday at Dr D Y Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.

To date, India and Australia have played five T20I series, with Australia winning four and India winning one.

Players to watch out for

Titas Sadhu: This 19-year-old pace sensation from West Bengal playing just her fifth T20I was impressive in the first match against Australia. She snapped 4/17, registering her career-best figures and second-best for any Indian against Australia in women’s T20Is (best: Jhulan Goswami 5/11). Not only with the new ball insude the powerplay but also in the death overs was she effective. She bagged the player of the match award for this brilliant effort.

Shafali Verma: Another 19-year-old in the Indian line-up had an outstanding outing in the first T20I against Australia. This right-handed opening batter having left out of the last two ODIs redeemed herself and played a gem of an innings. She registered her eighth T20I half-century as she muscled an unbeaten 64 off 44 that included six fours and three sixes.

Phoebe Litchfield: Moving down the order from the opening position in ODIs, this left-handed batter of Australia did not have any problems batting at number six in the first T20I against India, as she scored 49 off 32. Her innings was laced with four fours and three sixes. In the process, she stitched an 86-run partnership with Ellyse Perry for the fifth wicket.

Ellyse Perry: This Australian legendary all-rounder will grab all the attention on Sunday in the second T20I against India as she will become the first Australian women cricketer to play her 300th international match. In the first T20I, batting at number four, she played a handy knock of 37 from 30, including two fours and as many sixes. This right-handed batter held the innings together as she was in the middle from the fifth to 19th over.

Pitch

The venue will host the third women’s T20I (and second of this ongoing series). All the three matches have been played by the teams batting second (including one tie that was decided by Super Over). Also, in the WPL 2023, teams batting second won eight of the 11 matches. The captain winning the toss would look to bowl first given the possibility of dew late in the evening. In the second innings of the first T20I, there was significant dew, which made it difficult for the bowlers to grip the bowl, helping the batting side.

Weather

The weather is expected to be cloudy with temperatures hovering around 27 degrees Celsius. There will be 27% cloud cover and 1% chance of rain. The wind will blow from the west-southwest.

  • Ellyse Perry will play her 300th international match
