IND-A women take a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20 series against ENG-A

India A women sealed a nail biting three-run win against England A women on Wednesday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Batting first, India posted a fighting total of 134/7 in 20 overs. Disha Kasat, the 26-year-old cricketer from Vidarbha top scored with a 32-ball 25, which included three hits to the fence. For England, captain Charlie Dean and Freya Kemp were the most successful bowlers with two wickets apiece.

In reply, England were restricted to 131/7 in 20 overs. Hollie Armitage packed a punch with a 41-ball 52, which included three fours and six. She almost saw her team home before India’s captain Minnu Mani outfoxed her to have her caught and bowled. England were still in the game with 25 needed of 19 and six wickets in hand. However, Kashvee Gautam, bowling the 18th over of the innings and her last of the spell struck twice bringing India back into the game.

It was still not over as England needed 13 off the last 6 balls. Shreyanka Patil, who has the experience of bowling at the death, showed nerves of steel. Though her first ball went for five wides, she made a strong comeback and helped India seize a three-run win. Patil was awarded as the player of the match.

The 2nd T20 between India A women and England A women will be played on December 1 at the same venue. It will start at 1.30pm and will be broadcast on Jio Cinema.
