ICC Men’s CWC 2023: Can Bangladesh beat New Zealand for the first time in World Cups?

The 11th match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 will be played between New Zealand and Bangladesh on October 13 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

New Zealand and Bangladesh will play their third match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. While New Zealand have remained invincible as they convincingly beat defending champions England by six wickets and Netherlands by 99 runs, Bangladesh, on the other hand, have registered one win and one loss. Injury updates

New Zealand’s captain Kane Williamson did not feature in the first two matches as he is recovering from ACL tear. If he regains fitness, he will lead New Zealand against Bangladesh on Friday. Besides, right arm medium fast bowler Tim Southee who missed the first two matches due to fractured right thumb will be available for selection. On the other hand, Bangladesh do not have any fitness issues.

 

Playing conditions

MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai will host the encounter between New Zealand and Bangladesh. It will be a day night match. While New Zealand will play their fifth ODI here, having won one, lost two, and one match not producing a result, Bangladesh will play their second ODI here, having lost the first. The venue will host its second game of this World Cup. The first match played here was a low scoring one as the team batting first was bowled out for 199. Players to watch out for

New Zealand have been on a roll winning two out of two matches in this World Cup. Their batters Devon Conway (184 runs) and Rachin Ravindra (174 runs) are the third and fourth highest run scorers respectively in the tournament so far. Also, their bowlers, Mitchell Santner and Matt Henry have played crucial roles in the team’s success. Santner is the leading wicket-taker with seven wickets while Henry has six.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, have looked good in patches. Litton Das is the top run getter for his side with 89 runs in two matches, while left arm medium fast bowler Shoriful Islam is among the leading wicket-takers with five wickets in two matches. Besides, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Najmul Hossain Shanto will attract attention as they have already scored half-centuries in their first match. Captain Shakib Al Hasan will also be expected to contribute with bat and ball.
