How robotic surgeries are helping us?

Dr. Yogesh Vaidya of Pinnacle Orthocentre Hospital in Thane recently reached a significant milestone by completing 150 robotic surgeries. Here’s how he answered some common questions on robot-assisted surgeries.

Having been involved in robot-assisted surgeries, are you of the opinion that accurate technological assistance can make operations easier for both doctors and patients?
Robotic systems have completely changed how doctors perform orthopaedic surgeries. These systems use advanced technology to help doctors operate with incredible precision. This high-tech approach fits perfectly with the goal of providing the best possible care for patients while also ensuring that patients recover more quickly, experience less pain and regain their ability to move more easily after surgery. By combining doctors’ expertise with state-of-the-art robotic technology, surgeries are more accurate and patients’ lives have been significantly improved.

Could you mention one particular technological advancement which has personally made your job easier and more precise?
One standout technology in our arsenal is a handheld robotics platform that uses CT-free technology for precise implant sizing and positioning. Known for its precision milling abilities, this system enhances cutting accuracy and accelerates bone preparation, significantly improving overall surgical efficiency.

How is your patients’ feedback to robot-assisted surgeries?
A patient of mine shared her experience after undergoing a robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery. She said that, first of all, having the procedure explained to her in detail gave her the confidence to agree to proceed with it. According to her feedback, the surgery went smoothly and with minimal pain, followed by a swift recovery and a level of comfort she hadn’t expected.

Having conducted more than 150 robotic surgeries, how do you feel?
It is a great milestone. In a way, it tells me that my practice was able to successfully offer cutting-edge solutions to patients. The personalised approach enabled by robotic systems ensures optimal implant alignment and balance, reducing common post-surgical complications and significantly lowering the need for revision surgeries. Having completed more than 150 surgeries truly is a gratifying achievement in my career.
