Good News for Commuters: Local Train Travel to Stay Affordable.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has confirmed that general coaches in Mumbai local trains will not be converted into air-conditioned (AC) ones. This means passengers can continue travelling in general compartments at the old ticket rates.
He clarified that there will be no ₹1 increase in local train ticket prices. The decision was taken after opposition raised concerns about making all coaches AC. Fadnavis stated that people from weaker sections heavily depend on local trains for daily travel, and their needs must be considered.
Railways also supported the decision to keep the general coaches non-AC and maintain current ticket prices.
