Ghodbunder residents await water quota for 6 years

Having purchased a home after spending a fortune, the residents of Ghodbunder road have been expecting an adequate and regular water supply for over six years. The demand can be met only if the state government allows the Thane Municipal Corporation an additional quota of 100 million litres per day (mld).

Speaking to KYT, Mr. Naresh Manera, the former deputy mayor and a senior Shiv Sena corporator said, “The basic infrastructure, like constructing overhead tanks, laying of pipelines, etc., is complete. We are eagerly awaiting the additional quota of water that will end the woes of the Ghodbunder residents.”

Thanks to the continuous follow-up by the local corporators led by Mr. Manera, the water supply system was remodelled. Under this scheme, overhead tanks and a sump and pump house were constructed near the Prestige complex, Tropical Lagoon, Lodha, and Rumah Bali. Pipelines were laid from all seven tanks at a whopping cost of around ₹50 crores. The demand for an additional quota of water was made on October 20, 2016. It was routed through the present-day chief minister Mr. Eknath Shinde who was the then urban development minister. “The Konkan division of the irrigation department has yet to yield to this demand,” Mr. Manera regretted.

The capacity of each water tank is 2.5 mld, which makes it 17.5 mld (seven tanks), as against the total inflow of just 10 mld. “The necessary pressure fails to get built, affecting the supply,” stated Mr. Manera.
