Garba at Ghodbunder

Navratri is a festival that is celebrated widely in the city of Thane with utmost excitement and celebration. Every other building in the locality hosts a ‘Garba Night’ where people from different walks of life come together to worship the divine Goddess and dance to the beautiful Garba and Dandiya tunes. This year, the nine days of Navratri started on September 26, and like every year, it came with wearing a different colour each day. All the cooperative societies in Ghodbunder road went all out, having to miss out on the last two years of Garba.

 

Navratri Celebration at Unnathi Woods
Ending the night of Navratri in Unnathi Woods with Garba is a regular thing. The Garba night started with a puja before the Goddess and finished with a delicious buffet dinner for all the members of the society. Most people were decked head to toe in Chaniyacholis and Dhoti-Kurta, authentic jewellery, and headgears.

Bhondala at Vijay Enclave
Bhondala is a festival where all Maharashtrian women come together to dance and play traditional games in Navratri. The Bhondala celebration took place on September 29. The ladies of Vijay Enclave wore yellow as the Navaratri colour of the day was yellow. They played various games and sang melodious songs. Every lady had to bring something to eat (Khirapat) from their household, and a guessing game was played between the ladies to guess the food item.

 

Devi Darshan at Pushpanjali Residency
The residents of Pushpanjali Residency carried out puja of the Goddess with utmost dedication and wholeheartedness. Dandiya Ras was the theme this year, where Garba was played at night. All the ladies played Garba enthusiastically, and gents joined them in Dandiya.
