Will Burning Stand Get a Roof Before Monsoon?
At the Lal Chowki crematorium in Kalyan (West), dead bodies are being cremated under open skies due to the lack of a roof over the burning stand. Around 15–20 cremations are taking place daily this way. Although Rs 1.8 crore was sanctioned for a new crematorium, only fencing work has started. With monsoon approaching, citizens are questioning the delay. Local representative Manohar Mhatre has demanded urgent roofing for the burning stand to prevent problems during the rainy season.
