ENG-A women win the T20 series against IND-A women
As the three match T20 series was evenly poised, England A women beat India A women on Sunday in a low scoring thriller by two wickets to clinch the trophy.
Batting first India were bowled out for a paltry 101 in 19.2 overs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The match was played on the same pitch as the first two and was expected to be on the slower side. Uma Chetry (21 runs off 16 balls) and Disha Kasat (20 runs off 25 balls) were the major contributors with the bat. It was a difficult task for the Indian batters as England A women put up a disciplined effort with the ball. Issy Wong, Kirstie Gordon, Mady Villiers, and Lauren Filer snapped two wickets apiece.
In reply, the visitors chased the total in the last over of the match with two wickets in hand and five balls to spare. Hollie Armitage (27 runs off 28 balls) played a captain’s innings before she was run out by Mannat Kashyap, while Wong (28 not out off 30 balls), who won her second consecutive player of the match award, batted till the end to see her team home. India A women’s captain Minnu Mani and Shreyanka Patil were the most successful bowlers for their team with two scalps each.
With 21 runs needed off the last 24 balls and two wickets to get, the match was well-balanced. It was quite clear that the team that held its nerves deserved to win and it was England A to do so.
