Education: An investment tool with guaranteed returns

Kapil Pravin Mahajan

“An Investment in Knowledge pays the best interest.” – Benjamin Franklin. When we say “Knowledge” it comes from “Education”. Having mere “Information” is not “Knowledge”, implementing what we know, to the best possible extent we can, is “Knowledge”. A wise man once said to me “Kapil, educate yourself as much as you can, because, one day, everybody is going to leave you, what will stay with you, for a lifetime, is your education, those bunch of degrees and certificates and with that education, you can build and rebuild your character, relationships, career, business, get recognition in the society and get the required job plus financial stability.” Thereafter, I have never looked back, educated myself at regular intervals, and as a responsible citizen, as a responsible professional professor, as a responsible corporate employee, I have tried to promote the beauty and importance of education to all sorts of individuals I meet daily.

However, this investment in education pays its interest in the “long-run”. There is no shortcut to “Success”, which itself is a repeated effort day-in and day-out without losing hope, character, and strength. We must remember that “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” – Winston Churchill. Believing in your education and having a persistent but “Religious” approach towards your educational and life goals is of utmost importance. Education builds “Character”. Adequate education at a young age will open the door to all sorts of opportunities, catching and cashing the right opportunities, displays the audacity of one’s character.  Everything comes at the right time and what is required is Patience, Perseverance, Hard Work, Faith, and Self-Confidence.

Many individuals, nowadays, have no faith in their educational ventures.  More than thoughtfulness, thoughtlessness is the main character attribute observed in young minds. This is the biggest challenge, we as a society are facing. Maybe this is because of a lack of support or too many unrealistic expectations from parents, extended family, and friends. The fast pace of city life has stopped the conversation within the families. This has led to a communication gap between parents and children. The time has come where dialogue needs to be initiated between parents and children and required moral support needs to be provided to a STUDENT.
