Drug Smuggler Caught with MD Worth ₹75 Lakh in Thane

Police seize consignment smuggled from Rajasthan; two arrested.

The Crime Branch Unit-1 of Thane Police has arrested a drug smuggler transporting mephedrone (MD) worth around ₹75.22 lakh from Rajasthan. The accused, identified as Sureshsingh Tambar (35), was caught at the Thane border, and 501.50 grams of MD was recovered from his possession.

According to police, Tambar was bringing the drugs to supply to his associates in Thane. Acting on a tip-off, Crime Branch officials learned that the contraband was being smuggled through secret routes from Rajasthan to avoid detection. The accused planned to enter Thane via the Nashik highway. A police team led by Senior Inspector Sachin Gaikwad set up a trap near the old Kharegaon toll plaza on the Mumbra route.

When a suspicious white car with a Madhya Pradesh registration was stopped and searched, police found the drugs hidden inside. Further investigation revealed that Tambar intended to sell the consignment to his local contacts, identified as Kuldeepsingh Parihar and Abhishek Jaiswal. Police later arrested Kuldeepsingh as well.

Both accused have been remanded to police custody by the court. Investigations have shown that Tambar was regularly smuggling MD from a village near the Madhya Pradesh-Rajasthan border. Police are now probing the wider supply network.
