Developers Blocking Natural Drains; Will the Court Take Strict Action?
Developers asked to submit affidavit within eight weeks.
As part of action against illegal constructions, attention is now on buildings constructed by developers that block natural drains. Mumbai High Court has directed two such developers to submit an affidavit within eight weeks. In Thane’s Upvan and Manpada areas, natural water flow has been disrupted due to construction by two developers. The complaint was initially made by ex-corporator Ranjit Kirdat to the Thane Municipal Corporation. Since no action was taken, he approached the High Court. Justice A.S. Gadkari and Justice S.V. Joshi questioned why approval was given to such constructions. They also mentioned that a minimum gap of three meters from the drains must be maintained, but this was not followed. The High Court has asked Thane Municipal Corporation to respond and clarify its stand within eight weeks.
