Delhi’s 400-run win and Shweta Sehrawat’s 242 smash records in the Senior Women’s One Day

Senior Women’s One Day Trophy 2023-24 seems to be in a great mood to create records. On January 4, Mumbai (419/5) registered a historic win against Arunachal Pradesh (31 all out) when they defeated them by a mammoth margin of 388 runs. Till the time the players and Mumbai cricket’s fans could enjoy this moment, Delhi decided to play the spoilsport. Just a couple of days later, on January 6, Delhi pipped Nagaland by a humongous 400 runs to break Mumbai’s record. Across international and domestic levels, this Delhi’s win is second to New Zealand’s 408-run win over Pakistan in January 1997.

Batting first at MECON stadium in Ranchi, Jharkhand, Delhi piled up 455/4 in 50 overs, powered by Shweta Sehrawat’s magnificent 242 off 150. This right-handed opening batter, who had a terrific start to 2023, playing a pivotal role in India U19’s win in the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup in South Africa, has made a solid start again this year. Sehrawat is now the highest run scorer in a single match in List A women’s cricket in India. She is also the highest run scorer in any single match played across different formats of the game in Indian women’s domestic cricket. Besides, she has joined the elite company of India players Smriti Mandhana (224*) and Jemimah Rodrigues (202*), and Uttarakhand’s Raghvi Bisht (219*), who are the other double centurions, albeit in women’s U19 one day tournaments.

Internationally, Sehrawat’s innings which was laced with 31 fours and seven sixes, is now the second highest score by any player in women’s List A cricket. The record is held by Sri Lanka’s Sripali Weerakkody, who scored an unbeaten 271 in August 2007, playing for Kandyan Ladies Cricket Club against Pushpadana Ladies.
