Despite the TMC’s budget being badly hit by Covid-19, the civic body is draining its funds in unnecessary expenses alleges BJP. Appointment of contractors and spending lakhs of rupees for surveillance of advertising hoardings during this pandemic is extravagant, says MLC Niranjan Davkhare.
TMC decided to appoint a contractor who will monitor advertising hoardings of Thane. In last decade, thousands of hoardings have mushroomed in Thane. Some have legal sanctions and are paying the tax to TMC on regular basis while some operate illegally.
TMC, every year incurs huge loss due to this illegal operation. In order to prevent this loss, TMC has appointed a company who will monitor the movements of all hoardings by a software. In general body meeting, TMC has approved a budget of Rs 25 lakhs for this surveillance. TMC will not be liable to incur any recurring expenses on this activity, said Mr. Sandeep Malvi, deputy municipal commissioner.
In this challenging situation when TMC needs to cap funds, incurring such expenses is crime. The surveillance should have been conducted through TMC staff, states MLC Davkhare. When the economy is at its all time low, it is vital to be frugal. We are yet to come out of this crisis, so it is important to save funds wherever we can for future, Davkhare added.
