Cruel Contractor’s Act Kills Over 100 Birds
Tree Cutting Ignored Nesting Birds in Thane Society
Thane: It is illegal to cut trees when they have bird nests or are home to birds. However, in Anandnagar, Ghodbunder, a contractor hired by a housing society recklessly cut down trees without checking for nests.
Over 100 baby birds fell with the nests and died. Eggs also broke during the incident. Bird lovers rushed to rescue the survivors, saving about 20 chicks.
According to forest officials, a police complaint will be filed against the contractor and the housing society. Forest officer Kedarnath Patil confirmed legal action is being taken.
Local residents, including nature lovers, were shocked and angered. They stated that tree cutting happened despite birds clearly nesting. If officials had been informed earlier, this tragedy could have been avoided.
This incident highlights the urgent need for sensitivity and awareness before tree cutting, especially in urban areas where birds already struggle for space.
