India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and elected to bowl first on the batting paradise. The Indian bowlers proved to be expensive as they leaked 208 runs in 20 overs. Prashidh Krishna and Ravi Bishnoi were the two wicket-takers for India as they claimed one wicket apiece. For Australia, Steven Smith (52) provided the perfect start and was later supported by Josh Inglis, who hit a magnificent century. 209 was a competitive score however India’s T20 stars overhauled the target with one ball to spare. After Ishan Kishan (58) and Suryakumar Yadav’s (80) heroics, Rinku Singh (22*), the finisher completed the formalities.
Players to watch out for
Suryakumar Yadav: India’s captain led from the front as he plundered a masterclass 80 off 42 balls in the first T20I. He muscled nine fours and four sixes in his entertaining knock. Coming in at number four, when his team was a bit of under pressure at 22/2, he stitched a match winning 112 run partnership with Ishan Kishan for the third wicket.
Mukesh Kumar: When the rest of the Indian bowlers were bleeding runs, except for perhaps Axar Patel, who gave away 32 from his four, the 30-year-old right arm speedster conceded 29 runs from his four overs and was the most economical bowler in the high scoring match. Though he went wicketless, he was effective with his disciplined bowling effort.
Josh Inglis: The right-handed batter of Australia, who can keep wickets too, scored his maiden international century during the first T20I against India. He blasted 110 runs off 50 balls and struck 11 fours and eight maximums. Of the team’s total of 208, Inglis scored more than half of the runs. He looked comfortable against India’s pace and spin.
Tanveer Sangha: Australia’s leg spinner may have gone for plenty of runs in the first T20I against India but he was the most successful bowler for his team. He claimed 47/2 in four overs picking up the key wickets of a well-set Ishan Kishan and ever-dangerous Tilak Verma.
