Women’s cricket match played at Thane’s Central Maidan in memory of adv. Ramakant Ovalekar

In memory of advocate Ramakant Ovalekar, a women’s cricket match was played at Thane’s Central maidan on December 24. The 35-over game was played between Rajesh Madhvi Sports Association and Kamat Memorial Cricket Club.

Rajesh Madhvi Sports Association won the toss and elected to field first. Put in to bat, Kamat Memorial Cricket Club posted a daunting 240-6 in 35 overs, riding on Riya Salunkhe’s blistering half century (61 off 42). Opening bat Jetsun Chee (48) and skipper Pranjal Gurav (46) too contributed to the score. Towards the end, a quickfire 36 off 18 by Karuna Sakpal scripted a perfect end to Kamat’s batting. With the ball, Mithali Mhatre of Rajesh Madhvi Sports Association was the pick of the bowlers as she scalped 3-36 in her seven overs.

In reply, Rajesh Madhvi Sports Association was bowled out for a paltry 60 in just 13.2 overs, losing the match by 180 runs. Samiksha Bengal was the star performer with the ball as she picked up 3-15 in her four overs. Samiksha found an able ally in Nirmiti Rane, who chipped in with 2-4 in her two overs. Apart from Mithali Mhatre (28) and Ishita Bhosale (18), none of the other batters was able to score in double digits.

Kamat Memorial Cricket Club’s Riya Salunkhe and Pranjal Gurav won the best batswoman and best performer award respectively, while Rajesh Madhvi Sports Association’s Mithali Mhatre bagged the best all-rounder prize.
