Dispute Erupts Over Illegal Constructions; Civic Body Under Fire.

Following a High Court order, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) took action against unauthorized structures near Khau Galli in Shilphata. However, political allegations have surfaced, accusing the administration of targeting only specific areas.

Opposition leader Eknath Shinde had earlier ordered the removal of illegal constructions, but locals claim the drive is biased. Around 26 shops were recently demolished, prompting locals to allege selective action and political motives. Some structures near a health center and community space were also cleared.

Former corporators have accused TMC of allowing encroachments under political pressure, with municipal records showing earlier complaints dating back to 2018.

Thane officials state the anti-encroachment drive will continue. Police protection will be provided during the removal, and TMC aims to take back the land occupied illegally.

Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao has ordered strict monitoring to prevent further encroachments. TMC claims all illegal structures, regardless of affiliation, will be removed in the coming days.
