Redevelopment in Old Thane Raises Fire Safety Concerns.
Emergency Fire Vehicles May Face Access Blockage Near Rebuilt Buildings.
Several 7-8 storey buildings in old areas of Thane like Naupada, Bhaskar Colony, Station Road, and Chendani are being redeveloped. However, the Thane Municipal Corporation’s fire department is raising concerns as these buildings are closely packed, limiting access for emergency vehicles.
The department has stopped issuing No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for many of these buildings. If a fire accident occurs, fire trucks may not be able to reach the site, increasing the risk of major incidents.
Bhaskar Patil, from the standing committee, warned that this could pose a serious safety hazard. Proper spacing rules are not being followed, and authorities are neglecting required site inspections.
A complaint letter has been submitted about this issue.
