Kalwa-Airoli Elevated Rail Project to Bring Relief to Daily Commuters
Mumbai’s busy DIVA junction, often choked with traffic and delays, is finally getting a long-awaited breather. To ease the growing pressure on local trains, the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) is launching a new elevated rail corridor between Kalwa and Airoli. The 8 km double-decker elevated line will be built in two phases. The first phase — from Diva to Airoli — is expected to be completed by January 2026. The second phase — the upper deck line — will follow after two to three years, once land acquisition is completed. Costing ₹476 crore, this massive infrastructure project will not just reduce travel time but also help decongest the entire Thane-Mumbai route, benefiting lakhs of daily passengers. The project was once stalled due to land acquisition hurdles but is now back on track thanks to the support from CIDCO and MIDC. In a city where daily travel is a battle, this elevated railway comes as a ray of hope for Mumbaikars, promising smoother journeys, less stress, and better connectivity for those traveling between suburbs and commercial hubs.
