Need more efforts to spread Ayurveda: Union AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik
Among the various branches of medicine in the world, Ayurveda is considered one of the most unique. Union AYUSH Minister, Shri. Shripad Naik, who graced the National Health Fair in Thane as the chief guest, asserted that we can spread Ayurveda worldwide by making more focused efforts.
The ongoing National Health Fair and AIAC Con, 2024, from January 19 to 22, has been organised by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, on the theme ‘Ayurveda for All – A New Approach in Management of Lifestyle Disorders’. Shri. Naik, who inaugurated it on Friday, stated that being a part of this National Health Fair was more honourable than being the AYUSH Minister.
“While there are numerous branches of medicine, the one that connects modern life with ancient Vedas is Ayurveda. Ayurveda teaches us how to lead life in this fast-paced world of today. It also equips us to fight life-threatening diseases, with the most recent example being that of COVID-19. Ayurveda has the potential to combat such ailments,” Shri Naik further added.
Maharashtra has the highest number of Ayurvedic colleges in India. Therefore, it is necessary to have an independent Ayurvedic University here, and Ayurveda should be included in every Balasaheb Thackeray Hospital, expressed Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan Vd. Devendra Triguna (Chairman, National Ayurvedic University and All India Ayurvedic Mahasammelan Trust). He also opined that attention needs to be given to the old Mittal Ayurvedic College in Mumbai, which is on the verge of closure, and that place should be used for Ayurveda’s work.
Padma Shri Vd. Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of Shri AYUSH Ministry, said in this meeting that there is an effort to prevent the long-term damage caused by some appropriate interventions through AYUSH on the issues arising due to changing lifestyles. He further said that efforts are being made to identify the disease’s root cause alongside increasing the patient’s immunity by using the remedies of Ayurvedic science in the modern medical treatment system. He believed the secret to a healthy life is following a proper diet, a healthy routine, Panchakarma and other Ayurvedic methods.
In her speech, Union Labor and Employment Ministry Secretary Aarti Ahuja said that henceforth, 50 beds for Ayurveda treatment will be kept in labour hospitals. Public health is about prevention, not just treatment. She also noted that only Ayurveda can prevent any disease.
