Can India women seek revenge of the 2019 loss against England?

After a gap of four years, England women will tour India for a three match T20I series followed by a one off Test. The T20Is will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on December 6, 9, and 10, and the Test will be played at Dr D Y Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai from December 14 to 17. It will also be the first time since 2014 India will host a women’s Test.

The last time the two teams met in India for a T20I series, England beat India 3-0. Can India seek revenge of that loss and dominate in their home conditions?

Players to watch out

Smriti Mandhana: India’s stylish left handed opening batter is world number 3 T20I batter. With plenty of experience playing the T20s around the world, she will be expected to give India a good start. In 122 matches, she has scored 2934 runs, including 22 half centuries.

Deepti Sharma: India’s talented all-rounder is a genuine match winner with bat or ball. She is world number 4 bowler in T20Is. This right arm off spinner can bowl in any phase of the innings. She has 106 wickets and 956 runs in 98 matches.

Natalie Sciver Brunt: This England’s all-rounder is capable of winning matches for her team single handedly. She bats at top of the order and bowls right arm medium pace. In her 111 T20Is, she has muscled 2230 runs at a strike rate of 115 and snapped 81 wickets, including two four-wicket hauls.

Sophie Ecclestone: England’s tall left arm spinner is the world number 1 T20I bowler. The 24-year-old has 102 wickets in 73 matches. She bowls at a good pace and hits the right line and length consistently.

Pitch

The venue has hosted just the one women’s T20I to date. It was in 2016 during the ICC Women’s World T20 when West Indies beat New Zealand by seven runs after scoring 143 in 20 overs. Historically, the red soil pitch at the Wankhede stadium offers assistance to batters and bowlers. A high scoring contest could be on the cards. However with gentle breeze blowing across the ground there could be some movement for the bowlers.

Weather

The weather is expected to be clear and warm. The temperature in the evening will be around 26 degrees Celsius. There is 1% chance of rain and 8% cloud cover. The wind will blow from the north-northeast.
