Rotary Club of Thana West: Expanding Humanitarian Footprint

President CA Santosh Kadam’s visionary, people-centric leadership has expanded humanitarian service across healthcare, education, and social inclusion. By uniting government, corporate, and NGO partners, he has enabled the club to execute impactful projects with long-term community benefits.

Empowering Self Help Groups- On September 5, 2025, the Rotary Club of Thana West launched the “Empowering Self Help Groups” project at Aarna English High School. Conceptualised by President Santosh Kadam and spearheaded by Sakshi Chandna with guidance from District Chair Sadhana Vaze, the initiative distributed 20 sewing machines and materials to transgender individuals and underprivileged women to build sustainable livelihood skills. This joint venture with the Rotary Club of Thane Green City and Inner Wheel Club of Thane West also honoured the school’s educators for Teachers’ Day, beautifully blending community empowerment with a tribute to teachers.

Neutralisation Camp for Cats and Dogs- On Independence Day 2025, the Rotary Club of Thana West hosted a “Pashu Raksha” stray animal sterilisation camp in Shastri Nagar, partnered with Sai Pet Clinic and We Love Pets Shop. Attended by Chief Guest PDG Kailash Jethani, the initiative successfully neutered stray cats and dogs to control the population and promote compassionate, responsible animal welfare.

Drinking Water Facility- On October 6, 2025, the Rotary Club of Thana West and Inner Wheel Club of Thane West installed a modern drinking water system at Thane Central Jail to benefit over 2 lakh people annually. Conceptualised by PP Sadhana Vaze and executed by Prasad Borde under President Santosh Kadam’s leadership, the system serves inmates, staff, and 450 daily visitors. The inauguration, attended by PDG Kumar Kewalramani and DC Lakshmi Singh, also honoured President Award-winning jail superintendent Rani Bhosale and Rajaram Bhosale for their service.

Fundraising- The Club organised two major musical fundraisers for critical pediatric care. “Dil Se Dil Ke Liye” raised ₹8.75 lakhs to fund 33 pediatric heart surgeries and contributed ₹50,000 to the Maa Niketan welfare home. Meanwhile, “Masters of Melody” generated over ₹6 lakhs for pediatric cancer treatment, expanding the club’s humanitarian footprint and bringing life-saving relief to vulnerable children.

Promoting Inclusive Literature- To promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), the Club launched the Braille edition of “Mee Hijda – Mee Laxmi”, transcribed by Sadhana Vaze. Documenting the life of transgender activist Laxmi Narayan Tripathi as written by author Vaishali Rode, the event featured readings by Nupur. Tripathi praised Kadam’s leadership for championing marginalised groups, celebrating this milestone in making a powerful story of resilience fully accessible to visually impaired readers.
