Rotary Club of Thane Hills Anchors Three Major Civic and Cultural Initiatives

For the Rotary Year 2025-26, the Rotary Club of Thane Hills successfully launched three impactful community initiatives designed to elevate the cultural, civic, and social fabric of Thane.

Thane Literature Festival

Organised last year on November 1 in collaboration with the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) at the Dr Kashinath Ghanekar Mini Auditorium. The project was designed to establish Thane as a prominent cultural and literary hub. The two-day debut attracted over 750 registered attendees and featured eminent personalities like Devdutt Pattanaik, Nadir Godrej, Jerry Pinto, and Bachi Karkaria. Through panel discussions, book launches, and the “Meri Story” competition, the festival explored diverse themes across literature, mythology, cinema, and journalism. By broadcasting all sessions live on YouTube, the project successfully extended its reach past the physical venue, laying a foundation to target a total addressable readership of over 1 lakh citizens within the next three to five years under the guiding philosophy: Read daily → Think deeply →  Act wisely → Impact positively.

Susauwaad Panel Discussion

The club hosted the Susauwaad Panel Discussion on November 15, titled “Thane City and Becoming a Change Agent,” to address pressing urban challenges and encourage proactive civic participation. Moderated by Chief Editor of Thanevaibhav Milind Ballal, the event featured prominent local voices, including K D Lalla, Seema Redkar, Dr Khushboo Taori, and Professor Bhalerao, drawing an audience of more than 75 community leaders and residents. The conclave’s central takeaway urged citizens to treat Thane as their personal “home” rather than a temporary “dormitory.” Panelists emphasised that sustainable urban transformation requires proactive public ownership, continuous dialogue with municipal authorities, robust Advanced Locality Management (ALM), and leveraging CSR funding to support local infrastructure, healthcare, and education.

Rotary Action on Mental Health Initiatives

To address rising youth psychological distress, the club launched the District Chapter of the Rotary Action Group on Mental Health Initiatives on May 8 in Thane. Focusing on early intervention for anxiety, depression, and stress, the initiative secured backing from the College of Governors and Global Chair Rita Aggarwal to ensure long-term continuity. Medical panelists Dr Deepak Aiwale and Dr Shailesh Umate emphasised the urgent need to dismantle social stigma around seeking help. Moving forward, the chapter is partnering with schools, parents, healthcare providers, and NGOs to create safe spaces, aiming to reach 1 lakh youth over the next five to seven years.
