Thane’s 7 Crore Windfall
The property tax department of the Thane Municipal Corporation has had great fortune, setting a record by collecting approximately 7 crore rupees within the first two days of the new financial year.
There are approximately 6 lakh taxpayers within the municipal limits. The TMC issues bills on time and offers a 10% discount on general tax to those who pay their property tax within the first six months. Thanekars are taking advantage of this benefit, leading to timely payments, most of which are being done online.
- Day 1: By midnight, 1,887 citizens paid 1 crore 67 lakh rupees in property tax.
- Day 2: By 5 pm, 3,500 taxpayers deposited 5 crore 67 lakh rupees into the municipal treasury.
- Over the two days, 4,775 taxpayers contributed to the total collection of 7 crore rupees.
Given the strong start, Deputy Commissioner of the Property Tax Department, G.G. Godepur, expressed confidence that the officers and employees will achieve this goal.
