India’s First Bullet Train Goes Under
Construction of the 21-kilometer-long tunnel for India’s ambitious Bullet Train project has gained significant momentum and is now moving towards its final stages. Work is underway on this underground route from BKC to Shilphata using state-of-the-art technology.
- A 5-kilometer stretch of this tunnel has been successfully excavated using the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM).
- Installation of the drainage system is moving at a fast pace.
- A special membrane is being installed using waterproofing gantries to ensure the tunnel remains completely water-tight.
- Installation of steel reinforcement meshes inside the tunnel is also in progress, providing additional strength to the final concrete structure.
This is a pivotal turning point for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project. The project has demonstrated the effectiveness of modern tunneling technology in dense urban environments. Since every stage is being completed in a planned manner, it is clear that this crucial underground segment of India’s first Bullet Train project will soon be finished.
