Hapus Hits a Sour Note
Due to a decrease in production, the expected arrival of mangoes for the auspicious occasion of Gudi Padwa did not happen. On Monday, only 6,325 boxes of Hapus from the Konkan region and 10,520 boxes from South India arrived at the APMC fruit market.
This year, unseasonal rain has dealt a major blow to the mango production. As a result, the supply is low, and mango prices have risen. There is a 20-25% increase in rates compared to last year.
Supply is expected to increase after April 10, which may make mangoes more affordable for the public.
